ANCIENT WONDERS & ENGLISH CHARM
Jurassic Coast Discovery Tour
Journey Through Time
Prehistoric Sites to Norman Castles
Embark on an unforgettable journey through Dorset's most spectacular landscapes, from the dinosaur-rich Jurassic Coast to the dramatic ruins of a medieval stronghold.
Ancient Beginnings in Cranborne Chase
Our adventure begins as we leave Salisbury and travel through the stunning Cranborne Chase—an officially designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Dark Sky Reserve. Here, we'll visit the extraordinary Knowlton Church, the only church in Britain built within a 5,000-year-old Neolithic henge monument—a fascinating intersection of pagan and Christian heritage.
UNESCO World Heritage Coastline
After exploring Knowlton, we journey through the historic Saxon town of Wareham and the charming Isle of Purbeck before arriving at the jewel of the Jurassic Coast—Lulworth Cove. This natural basin is a geological marvel, where crystal-clear waters meet perfectly curved white cliffs, creating what visitors often describe as a true "wow" moment.
Dinosaur Footsteps & Natural Wonders
At Lulworth Cove, where dinosaur fossils have been discovered throughout centuries, you'll have time to explore at your own pace. Visit the heritage center and choose between a scenic walk (moderate difficulty) or a short drive to the iconic Durdle Door—a magnificent natural limestone arch extending into the sea—and the picturesque Man O War Cove. These dramatic formations offer spectacular photo opportunities where time seems to stand still.
Medieval Might at Corfe Castle
Our journey continues through the Purbeck Hills and quintessential English villages with thatched cottages and honey-colored stone walls. We'll then arrive at Corfe Castle, an imposing 1000-year-old Norman fortress dramatically positioned atop a natural hill. This iconic survivor of the English Civil War has witnessed battles, murders, and royal residents throughout its tumultuous history. After exploring the castle ruins, we'll have time to wander through the charming limestone village that shares its name.
Victorian Seaside Charm & Coastal Formations
Next, we visit the Victorian seaside town of Swanage, perfectly positioned at the eastern end of the Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site. From Studland Bay, we'll view the spectacular Old Harry Rocks—three dramatic chalk formations marking the eastern boundary of this ancient coastline.
Unique Return Journey
Our return journey offers one final adventure as we cross Poole Harbour aboard the Sandbanks Ferry—one of only seven chain ferries still operating in Britain—before heading back to Salisbury.
